NATEMBEYA DISTRIBUTES CERTIFIED MAIZE SEEDS TO KOROS FARMERS, CALLS FOR UNITY AMONG LEADERS
Governor George Natembeya today led the distribution of certified maize seedlings to residents of Koros in Kwanza Sub-county, in a move aimed at boosting food security across Trans Nzoia County.
Speaking during the exercise, Governor Natembeya called on leaders from Trans Nzoia to refrain from insulting one another and instead embrace unity for the benefit of residents.
“We must stop insulting each other as leaders. Let us work together in harmony to ensure the people of Trans Nzoia get all the services and support they deserve,” said Governor Natembeya.
He emphasized that development can only be realized when leaders put aside political differences and focus on service delivery.
At the same time, the governor challenged the National Government to provide free fertilizer to farmers to complement the county’s efforts in supplying certified maize seedlings.
“If the National Government can provide free fertilizer, our farmers will have all the necessary inputs to maximize production. That is how we will completely defeat hunger in this county,” he added.
The distribution event was attended by several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), County Executive Committee Members (CECs), Chief Officers, directors and other county staff who joined the governor in personally handing over the certified maize seedlings to farmers.
The exercise is part of the county government’s initiative dubbed "Fukuza Njaa Trans Nzoia", targeting more than 231,000 small-scale farmers. The Sh139 million programme seeks to boost food production, enhance farm productivity and strengthen household food security, underscoring the administration’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and improved livelihoods for residents across the county.
